I HAPPILY ACCEPT EGOISTIC MEN!

Image
Hello? Can you see that? Yes/No. If need be. Please adjust and re-adjust your glasses And yes, I am screaming this with an unapologetic effect I ..................... Happily Accept The Egoistic  ....................men.                                     Relax! I will make you see the reasons. A message flashed into my inbox from a young man, few days ago. I had wanted to ignore his first two greetings as a result of his language style, but I had to give him the benefit of doubt. Not too long, we had series of conversations beyond that. And just within the first few days, when I would have thought we should progress by an inch closer to being platonic friends. His contact was deleted from my HATE list. Yes, you got that right. And why would I ever do that in the first instance? He wasn't meant to be enlisted in the first place and I gave him reasons. Seeing that I was too peculiar abo...

YOU START DYING SLOWLY!

Image
You start dying slowly...  if you do not travel,  if you do not read,  If you do not listen to the sounds of life,  If you do not appreciate yourself.  You start dying slowly :  When you kill your self-esteem,  When you do not let others help you.  You start dying slowly ;  If you become a slave of your habits,  Walking everyday on the same paths…  If you do not change your routine,  If you do not wear different colours  Or you do not speak to those you don’t know.  You start dying slowly :  If you avoid to feel passion  And their turbulent emotions;  Those which make your eyes glisten  And your heart beat fast.  You start dying slowly :  If you do not risk what is safe for the uncertain  If you do not go after a dream  If you do not allow yourself  At least once in your lifetime  To run away from sensible advice  Don't let yourself die slowly  Do not ...

HOW I TURNED DOWN A JOB OFFER FROM CYPRUS.

Image
I declined a virtual job offer from Cyprus.  I had even forgotten that I applied for this particular remote job. So when the mail came that I had been shortlisted for the post, I had to travel down memory lane.   While reading, I was pleased to see the congratulatory part and the remuneration figure.  Trust me, the monthly compensation was really cool coupled with the weekly incentives.  But... It doesn't matter how inviting and great an offer might be looking, the thing is, if it's against what God commands, will you still take it? I understand that 'sapa' is out there and sometimes it seems as if life doesn't care whether you're a Christian or not. The state of things in the country doesn't even help matters and bills are on the high side.  Still on still, Even though, What God is against, He is against!  He will NEVER take back His word because of you or what you're facing! You may really want to compare yourself to those who are making it th...

DEAR YOUNG LADY.

Image
It will interest you to know that there are some proposals you should turn down, not because the man isn't handsome or well to-do, but because he may not be able to manage your career capacity as time goes by.  I will share my story.  About a decade ago, while I was still in 200/300 level, a young man who wanted to marry me once said and I quote, "You're too much of a career oriented person and I don't think that you will have time for our home. Can't you just slow down a bit? Haba!" Well, that statement didn't even hit me much until he started throwing subtle jibes about my writing skills then and how I was doing 'too much' 'Too much'? How? I discovered that even as at that level I was, I would usually talk about my dreams, how to enter my creative pieces for a competition, discuss short term goals about creating a book, etc.  There were times that he saw my attention to books and he introduced me to a writing training. When he noticed t...

WITH JOY WE DRAW FROM THE WELL!

Image
There's a part of minister Dunsin's song that says, 'with joy we draw from the wells of salvation.' It's like that part of the song is truly making sense to me now. Clarity is really forming. It's taking shape.  When I got posted to Ikare Akoko camp for my 21 days orientation, I was truly happy because Ondo state is such a peaceful state and I felt like I had finally arrived.  Realization set in when I was posted to one of the biggest secondary school in Okitipupa as at 2018. It was all fun and love until I met the school directors (they doubled as the owners).  These people were not only extreme with dictatorship, the wife was a taskmaster.  She opted that all corpers must be in corporate wears from Mon -Fri.  All corpers will close by 6pm.  By virtue of my qualifications, I was given English to teach but she added extra 5! There's a boarding house for boarders, so a male corper and I will double as house master and house mistress. That means we won't b...

A NIGERIAN CHILD

Image
Prelude. My name is Alonsyios Deesay, orphaned at 7years old. As much as I can remember, the faint memories of my parents became daunted when my aunts posited that an eerie being seized them away during a hill climbing experience. As reported, nobody was a witness to whatever might have happened, but how was I to give answer to their death- puzzle that dazzles in my mind eye? The very hill that is being used for peace festival in my village swallowed up my parents? Well, ever since, my aunt Sally ,the youngest of my late mother’s siblings had tagged our clan head the evil backbone behind my fate. I discovered through my blind maternal grandmother, the odd stale tale besides the news of my birth. That gloomy morning, our clan head had announced with a glaring animosity that I am a strange child with a powerful hold in my tongue. He argued that a small dark knot of white flesh hangs behind my left earlobe, when checked, it was found to be true. But to his consternation, my parents ,espec...

A THEATER EXPERIENCE I WILL NEVER FORGET

Image
Being pregnant with twins was quite a ride for me, except for the theatre experience. Okay now, I was gisting with my husband sometimes ago and one thing led to the other, we began to recount their delivery experiences. My first child delivery experience wasn't as traumatic as the second birth. Despite the fact that I was unprepared. As for the second birth, it was an elective CS and I was quite prepared, mentally. But it was STILL traumatic. D-day came and my husband was seated in the reception because he wasn't allowed to the theatre. About an hour to the procedure, he said he couldn't comport himself anymore on hearing my screams and cries from the theatre. He said he managed to ask one of the midwife on seat what was happening to his wife and the midwife said, "If they're cutting you with something, won't you shout?" That response really got him 'mad' but he couldn't show it. He said that he had wanted to ask that, "What then was the u...
